A Day in the Canary Islands

We have finally arrived in the Canary Islands!!! We were in Paris for about eight days, and then got to come here. It's almost time for us to get on the ship! Aaah! We get to go on the ship this Saturday. Soooo close!

It was awesome. This morning I got to wake up at 9:30!! There are these really cool metal shutters on our windows that make 9:30 in the morning still feel like night time! So, I got up and watched some cartoons with my brother until my parents got back from the boardwalk. Then the boys went to get haircuts, and the girls went to the mall.

After we went shopping at the mall, we started heading back. We were going to the beach with some of our friends from On Boarding in Texas. This family has three little boys and they are from the Netherlands. It was so much fun to get to play with them, and my sister and I collected a ton of sea glass! Sadly, we couldn't go into the water because the lifeguards had put up the red flag warning us that there were jellyfish in the water and a lot of people had gotten stung. We still had fun making little sand castles and playing on the rocks. It was really nice to get to see some familiar faces!!

That night we were going out to dinner with our really close friend who lives on the ship, Miss Beth. She is actually the whole reason we know about Mercy Ships!! My mom wrote a blog post about it here: https://www.newquistsonboard.com/post/it-s-all-her-fault
She brought two of her friends with her who are on the ship. One of them is going to be my science teacher!! They were super nice and we all had a really fun time. We went to dinner at this little place by the boardwalk. We sat there for a while and talked, we heard everyone's highlights and favorite things about the ship.

Then we went and got gelato. On the way there, a man was blowing bubbles. Lots of them. It was the best thing ever!! I love bubbles so much, and we had a great time laughing and popping all of the big bubbles!! The ice cream place that we went to was one of Miss Beth's favorites!! Her ice cream was Dark Chocolate with Oranges. I got the Pineapple. It was really really good!! Then we all sat down on a bench and talked for a very long time. We talked about glitter and school. We talked about the Canary Islands and the ship. We also tried to find a little mouse that was in the tree in front of us! Then it was time to go back.

That night was probably one of my most favorite nights!! We had so much fun hanging out with old and new friends!! I can't wait to get to live on the Africa Mercy with these incredible, fun people!!
